A two-dimensional population density approach to modeling the dLGN/PGN network
نویسندگان
چکیده
The interaction of two populations of integrate-and-fire-or-burst neurons representing thalamocortical cells from the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (dLGN) and thalamic reticular cells from the perigeniculate nucleus (PGN) is studied here using a population density approach. A two-dimensional probability density function that evolves according to a time-dependent advection-reaction equation gives the distribution of cells in each population over the membrane potential ðvÞ and de-inactivation level ðhÞ of the low-threshold Ca2þ current IT. The response of the dLGN/PGN network is studied for optic tract stimulation protocols of different amplitude, duty cycle, and frequency. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Performance comparison of land change modeling techniques for land use projection of arid watersheds
The change of land use/land cover has been known as an imperative force in environmental alteration, especially in arid and semi-arid areas. This research was mainly aimed to assess the validity of two major types of land change modeling techniques via a three dimensional approach in Birjand urban watershed located in an arid climatic region of Iran. Thus, a Markovian approach based on two suit...
متن کاملRisks assessment of forest project implementation in spatial density changes of forest under canopy vegetation using artificial neural network modeling approach
Risks assessment of forest project implementation in spatial density changes of forest under canopy vegetation using artificial neural network modeling approach Nowadays, environmental risk assessment has been defined as one of the effective in environmental planning and policy making. Considering the position and structure of vegetation on the forest floor, the main role of forest under ca...
متن کاملThe influence of nitric oxide on perigeniculate GABAergic cell activity in the anaesthetized cat.
We have tested the effect of iontophoretic application of the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor L-nitroarginine on the activity of a population of 53 perigeniculate (PGN) cells, recorded extracellularly in the anaesthetized paralysed cat. In all cells tested with visual stimulation during L-nitroarginine application (n = 15), the visually elicited responses were markedly reduced, on average by 63...
متن کاملThree-dimensional CFD modeling of fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of Al2O3/water nanofluid in microchannel heat sink with Eulerian-Eulerian approach
In this paper, three-dimensional incompressible laminar fluid flow in a rectangular microchannel heat sink (MCHS) using Al2O3/water nanofluid as a cooling fluid is numerically studied. CFD prediction of fluid flow and forced convection heat transfer properties of nanofluid using single-phase and two-phase model (Eulerian-Eulerian approach) are compared. Hydraulic and thermal performance of microch...
متن کاملThree-dimensional modeling of transport phenomena in a planar anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell
In this article three dimensional modeling of a planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) was investigated. The main objective was to attain the optimized cell operation. SOFC operation simulation involves a large number of parameters, complicated equations, (mostly partial differential equations), and a sophisticated simulation technique; hence, a finite element method (FEM) multiphysics approach ...
